It’s Autumn now, so not
unexpected that our breath
makes clouds
murmuration of starlings
comma the skies as if they too
await good news
bottles of expressed breast milk
rest warm in my lap as we
travel to the neonatal ward
exposed tree trucks look
fat enough to total a car
driven headlong at them
sometimes we get there without
having to pause
at a single red light
without fail
on every single journey
I see one magpie.
