My mirror is tricky! one glance
and I remember
that I am no longer young
I see a time-lapse video in fast forward
then rewind.
Morph magic
I pulled a picture out of a shoebox the other day
it was faded
I was wearing a blue flowered dress
covered in children (one on my lap, one on each side)
with a frustrated expression
The picture was taken before I had a chance to
smile
sit up straight
pretend my life was fine.
I look at her with curiosity
her smooth skin
thicker curls
Small body
weary green eyes
I wouldn’t trade my looks
for hers, even with the slight fluff
of my tummy and the deep lines on my face
No, she had the looks, but I have something else.
