Impatience

Would you ask

The river

To run faster—

Seated along

Its dewy banks

Flanked by

Flowers of blue and gold

Watching the sunlight

Bounce against

The gray slate rock

Then break

Into a thousand glittering shards

Shimmering across

That green water-glass—

There, in the sweet,

Grassy air

Would you use your sacred breath

Inhaling so deeply

To demand that the river

That cradles you

With its warm magnificent grace

Do anything other

Than flow?
